The Fundamentals of Systems Engineering is a transdisciplinary course that teaches about systems design principles and concepts using scientific, technological and management methods to enable successful realization, use and retirement of engineering systems.

It helps to better understand and document customer needs and required functionality early in the development phase, then proceeding with design synthesis, conceptual design and system validation and verification while considering the complete problem including operations, performance, test, manufacturing, commissioning, cost, and schedule.

Topics include different hardware and software components of a system and how they interrelate and contribute to a system’s goals and success.
