This course explores modern Turkey from interdisciplinary perspective, structured into three main thematic sections.

Topics in the first part are focused on the historical foundations: historical events and developments, that shaped modern Turkish state.

The second section examines modern Turkey delving into the political landscape, social and cultural transformations.

The third section is dedicated to Turkey’s foreign policy in the wider context of regional and global developments with particular focus on South Caucasian geopolitics and Armenia-Turkey relations.

Key topics include nationalism, Islam, modernization, authoritarianism, political culture, foreign policy and geopolitics.

The course aims to help students understand the drivers of Turkey’s domestic and foreign policies in 21st century.
